Here is the master list of tables of contents for all Playback issues. These contents listings are based on Ed's introductory remarks at the beginning of each issue, and are not always complete. Every issue will most likely have some unlisted tidbits which reflect the technology of the time period. There may also be items in the contents that don't actually appear in the given issue, because their inclusion was dependent on time constraints. It would be impossible to eliminate these false entries, or in general provide more accurate contents listings, without listening to every word of every issue. Sometimes while listening to these magazines, something will particularly grab my attention which isn't listed in the contents. In these cases, below the regular contents list for that issue, there will be a line starting with notes: and followed by the notes of interest. These Playback magazines were recorded into computer files from cassettes by Roger Smith, and this contents list was compiled by Jayson Smith. Every issue is preceded with three at symbols @@@. This will allow you to search quickly. Note on spellings: Since Playback was an audio magazine, spellings of product names, company names, and similar words were not usually given unless they were relevant. Thus, it is not always possible to verify the correct spelling of these names, especially considering the historical nature of much of this information. Therefore, there may be some misspelled product or company names. @@@ Edition 1, September 1979 Address file Freebies and modified equipment for the blind Classifieds An in depth look at mailing tapes Discussions of things Ed can sell from Goldsboro @@@ Edition 2, November 1979 Address file Some new equipment Ed's come across which might be interesting Talking about telephones, answering services, new device for talking on the phone even though you're not there when it rings Idea page Classifieds Things Ed can sell you from Goldsboro @@@ Edition 3, January 1980 A little bit about Ed Information file, used to be called the Address file A few items Ed has found of interest Sound trends in the 80's Shopping smartly through toll-free numbers Classifieds Info about what Ed can sell you from Goldsboro @@@ Edition 4, March 1980 Address file Answers to questions from members about putting together a stereo system Sound shaping.
